PRENTISS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities in Mississippi are searching for two “extremely dangerous” inmates, including one charged with murder, who escaped from a county jail, according to officials.

Desmond Fortenberry, 28, and Marcus Bridges, 30, escaped from the Jefferson Davis County Jail at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Fortenberry was being held on a murder charge and Bridges was booked into jail on an armed robbery charge, news outlets reported.

Prentiss Mayor Charley Dumas said it was not immediately clear where the inmates may be heading, The Vicksburg Post reported. Authorities did not say how the inmates were able to escape.

Officials warned the public not to approach the men if they encounter them, but to contact law enforcement.
