Woman found in the woods after leaving Vermont’s Long Trail

JAY, Vt. (AP) - A hiker is safe after she was found by rescuers after walking off the Long Trail in the northern Vermont town of Jay, police said.

Police learned Tuesday that Rachael Sylvia, 36, of Barnstead, New Hampshire, had walked off the trail and did not know where she was.

Sylvia was eventually located on steep terrain in the dark by U.S. Border Patrol agents. The agents and members of the Jay Fire Department led her out of the woods.

Sylvia did not need medical attention.

The Long Trail runs from Massachusetts to the Canadian border in Jay.
