HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) - A driver died when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a building in Hutchinson and burst into flames, police there siad.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, television station KSNW reported. Witnesses reported that the SUV was traveling at high speeds when it left the roadway, sped through an open field and crashed into a building on the west end of the city, police said. The crash caused the SUV to erupt in flames, and officers tried to rescue the driver but had to retreat because of the flames, police said.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. Police said some officers were treated and released for smoke inhalation. No one else was hurt.
