OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) - A body found floating in a southern New Jersey waterway has been identified as a man who went missing earlier this month after he swam out in a bid to rescue two family members.

Jabed Ikbal, 24, of Clementon, was found around 6 a.m. Saturday by a fisherman in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet, south of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge near Ocean City. The fisherman called police, and authorities soon removed the body from the waterway.

Ikbal was reported missing on July 12, shortly after he had gone in to the inlet when the family members started struggling in the strong currents, authorities have said. The two family members made it safely back to shore, but Ikbal soon disappeared from view.

A search involving Coast Guard crews and local emergency responders was soon launched, but was called off after two days.
