CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities in West Virginia have located the occupants of a boat that they say hit a swimmer in the Tygart River and sped away.

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck late Saturday afternoon near the river bank, just south of the Benton’s Ferry Bridge, according to a statement from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

The victim was in serious but stable condition at a hospital, the agency said.

DNR police have identified the boat, its operator and three other occupants. No charges have been filed as investigators pursue additional information, the DNR said.

After the boat struck the swimmer, it slowed and its occupants looked back, but then sped away north on the Tygart River, authorities said.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to contact DNR police.
