PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 14-year-old girl is now facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting death earlier this month of a contractor outside a Providence home, police said Monday.
The teen, whose name was not made public because of her age, is scheduled to be arraigned in Family Court in connection with the July 1 killing of Jorge Gonzalez Colon, Maj. David Lapatin said.
Gonzalez Colon, 37, was shot multiple times outside a Providence home he was working on in the city’s Silver Lake neighborhood. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police do not think he was the intended target.
Felix Hernandez-Rosado, 18, is also charged with murder and conspiracy in the killing. He appeared in court Friday and is being held without bail. His attorney called it a complicated case and said “There is no relationship between my client and the victim.”
Police said last week that Hernandez-Rosado was thought to be with a 14-year-old girl who had been reported missing. That girl has been found, police said Monday, but it was unclear if she is the same girl charged in the case.
The death was the city’s fourth homicide of 2020.
