FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - An investigation is underway after a 7-year-old boy was shot in the head Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
The child was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan told news outlets.
While foul play isn’t suspected investigators are trying to determine whether the boy accidentally shot himself, or if someone else accidentally shot him, Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening said,
Authorities said the boy underwent surgery on Thursday.
Police have not said who owned the gun, or whether charges will be forthcoming.
