SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police fatally shot a man who ended an hourslong standoff with officers Wednesday by exiting a residence armed with a gun and refusing orders to drop it, authorities said.

Shepherdsville police originally went to the residence Tuesday night seeking Tyler Blevens, 22, who was wanted felony warrants including wanton endangerment of a police officer, state police said in a statement. As officers approached, Blevens barricaded himself inside and state police were called to assist.

Officers negotiated with Blevens throughout the night until he came outside at 6 a.m. with a firearm and tried to enter a vehicle, police said.

Troopers repeatedly commanded Blevens to drop the weapon, but he didn’t respond and officers fired, the statement said. Blevens was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bullitt County Coroner’s Office.
