Jorge Masvidal took time out of his busy schedule before UFC 251 this weekend to deliver a “super necessary” blow to online activists calling for a boycott of Goya Foods.
The ’BMF’ (Baddest Mother F—r) champion defended Robert Unanue, chief executive of the family-run company, as online ideologues called for punishing Goya. His offense: offering kind words to President Trump.
“We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,” Mr. Unanue said after a House roundtable with Hispanic business and political leaders.
Former Obama HUD Secretary Julián Castro, for instance, urged Americans to “think twice before buying their products. #Goyaway.”
Masvidal, getting ready to face off against Kamaru Usman for a welterweight title fight, rejected those who contributed to the boycott and its hashtag.
“Don’t listen to the #woke mob #Goya beans are the best beans with some white rice,” he said. “I’m a Latino son of immigrants that was blessed enough to eat #goyafoods in good times and in the bad times #supernecessary.”
The fighter’s bout takes place in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
The location, Yas Island, has been deemed “Fight Island” by eager fans.
