Beavis and Butt-Head are returning to television under a new deal announced Wednesday that is set to see the animated duo appear in a new series broadcast by Comedy Central.

Comedy Central has ordered two seasons of a new, “reimagined version of ’Beavis and Butt-Head,’” the cable network announced Wednesday, nearly 30 years after the show first aired.

Mike Judge, the creator of “Beavis and Butt-Head,” will once again write and produce the program and provide the voices of both characters, Comedy Central said in a press release.

“It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again,” Mr. Judge, 57, said a statement.

Debuted in 1993, “Beavis and Butt-Head” ran for seven seasons on MTV and spawned a feature-length film, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America,” before going off the air in late 1997.

The show was later revived for an eighth season that briefly ran in 2011, but no additional episodes have aired in the nearly nine years since then.

Mr. Judge has remained active in the interim, meanwhile, notably by creating the HBO series “Silicon Valley” that aired its fifth and final season late last year.

In addition to the new seasons of the revived “Beavis and Butt-Head,” Comedy Central also plans to run unspecified spinoffs and specials, the network said in the press release.

The reimagined version of the show will contain “meta-themes relatable to both new and old fans — Gen X parents and their Gen Z kids,” the press release said.

“Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own,” said Chris McCarthy, Comedy Central’s president of entertainment and youth.
