FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A former Maryland medical marijuana regulator has joined one of the first companies licensed in the state to grow marijuana.

Joy Strand started Jan. 1 as executive vice president of Frederick-based Green Leaf after resigning in the fall as executive director of the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission, The Washington Post reported this week.

Green Leaf chief executive Phil Goldberg told the newspaper he consulted the state ethics commission before hiring Strand, who led the medical marijuana commission for 21 months.

Strand will focus on government relations in various states as the company looks to expand, Goldberg said.

Goldberg said he is confident any conflicts of interest have been considered.

Strand told the newspaper she was unaware of the opportunity at Green Leaf when she decided to leave.
