LAURENS, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina corrections investigators are looking into an inmate’s death at Laurens County’s Johnson Detention Center.

Someone discovered an inmate there at 5 a.m. Friday deceased in their cell, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The State Law Enforcement Division was contacted to investigate, per protocol, The Index-Journal reported.

The news release offered no additional information, directing any questions to SLED or the Laurens County Coroner’s Office. A call to the coroner’s office was not immediately answered. SLED Public Information Officer Tommy Crosby said the investigation was underway, but that he did not have any specific details at this time.
