OPINION:
The Democrat-led impeachment circus should end. It is time for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to call for a vote to dismiss the case against President Trump. Talks of more witnesses are a waste of time if the Senate can’t hear from Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, the so-called whistleblower or Rep. Adam Schiff.
I have confidence in vulnerable Republican senators such as Cory Gardner, Martha McSally and Thom Tillis voting to dismiss the impeachment case. (Another vulnerable Republican who should vote to dismiss is Susan Collins, who redeemed herself in 2018 by voting for Brett Kavanaugh after joining Sens. John McCain and Lisa Murkowski to vote against Mr. Trump’s health care bill in 2017.)
Truth be told, if Mitt Romney, Lamar Alexander and Lisa Murkowski vote with the Democrats to convict Mr. Trump, it won’t be a surprise. Mr. Alexander is not seeking re-election and is likely to be replaced by Bill Hagerty or Manny Sethi, both of whom are Trump supporters. Ms. Murkowski will not seek re-election, or else she will lose in a primary against Sarah Palin in 2022. I think Mr. Romney will suffer the same fate in 2024, like the other Never Trumpers.
The worst-case scenario for the Republicans is Sens. Collins, Gardner and Tillis losing, but I see Democrat Doug Jones losing to Tommy Tuberville or Jeff Sessions.
I won’t be surprised if Democratic Sens. Doug Jones, Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin vote to acquit Mr. Trump.
