WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A 29-year-old Delaware man has died of the flu, bringing the number of deaths so far this season to four, health officials said.

The man was from New Castle County, as was a 65-year-old woman who died last week, officials said Friday. None of the four had received the flu vaccine, and all had underlying medical conditions, he Delaware News Journal reported.

The actual number of flu cases in Delaware is higher because not every case is officially tested or reported.

The flu shot is the best prevention against getting the flu, doctors say. It takes about two weeks after receiving the vaccine for antibodies to develop enough to protect the body.

Symptoms of the flu often include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headaches and body aches, chills and fatigue. People with diabetes and asthma are more likely to catch the flu, health officials said.

Last flu season in Delaware, there were 24 flu-related deaths and 6,387 cases confirmed by state health officials.
