CODY, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming ski area will shut down after the winter season.

Sleeping Giant Ski Area outside Cody has been operating at a deficit of over $200,000 per year.

Yellowstone Recreations Foundation runs the ski area. Foundation manager Amy Woods says the nonprofit will continue to run a zipline during the summer.

The ski area dates to the 1930s, when it was known as Red Star and operated across U.S. Highway 14-16-20 from its current location.

Sleeping Giant closed in 2004 but reopened in 2009, the Cody Enterprise reports.

Yellowstone Recreations Foundation board member Otto Goldbach says the ski area hasn’t turned a profit since reopening.
