CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for robbing two fast-food restaurants with a pistol, according to authorities.

Charlotte-based federal prosecutors said in a news release that Elijah Stevarus Hallman, 30, was sentenced Tuesday. He had been convicted in April by a federal jury of robbery, conspiracy and firearms charges.

The news release said Hallman stole cash early on the morning of April 11, 2018, by sticking his pistol through the drive-through of a Wendy’s in Charlotte.

Because he only got five dollars, authorities said, he decided to rob a McDonald’s 30 minutes later in Charlotte. In that robbery, he ripped out the entire cash drawer and made off with $360, according to the news release. Investigators say that they found a cell phone that Hallman apparently dropped in the parking lot of the McDonald’s, helping them track him down.

Authorities said that Hallman recruited cousin, Cameron Hallman, to serve as his getaway driver. The cousin previously pleaded guilty to his role in the robberies and received about 15 years in prison.

An attorney for Elijah Hallman didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment Tuesday.
