BELMONT, N.H. (AP) - Fires destroyed two New Hampshire properties over the weekend, fire officials said.

Both blazes were called in by passersby in Belmont. The first fire was reported around 7 p.m. on Saturday, and the second about 10 p.m. Sunday, The Laconia Daily Sun reported.

Belmont Fire Chief Mike Newhall said both fires started in barns attached to the homes and that the two homes were total losses. He said the owners for both properties were out of state.

Newell said his department was short staffed and the single-digit temperatures made it difficult to control the blaze.
