DERBY, Conn. (AP) - Authorities in Connecticut have rescued a man found clinging to rocks in the Housatonic River after he fell from a railroad bridge the night before.
The man told emergency crews he was walking on a trestle bridge in Sunday night when he lost his footing and plummeted into the river. The span is in Derby, about 10 miles west of New Haven.
He swam to a pile of rocks surrounding a bridge pylon where he waited through the night for help.
Crews used a boat to rescue the man and take him to shore.
He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and possible frostbite.
The trestle bridge is closed to pedestrians.
