BOSTON (AP) - Manhole fires overnight Sunday have prompted utility officials to cut off power in the area of Faneuil Hall in downtown Boston.
Fire officials say they received multiple reports of fires at around 12:30 a.m. and found smoke in the basements of buildings around the historic meeting hall, as well as from area manholes.
Power company Eversource says the smoke appears to have come from fires underground caused by an equipment failure.
About 20 utility customers, most of them commercial businesses, are without power Sunday morning, and some streets are closed as officials work to fix the problem.
No injuries have been reported and officials say there’s no danger to the public.
