OPINION:
In “Cornel West warns against Bernie Sanders rivals’ attempt to sow division” (Web, Jan. 16) writers Seth McLaughlin and David Sherfinski quote Adilka Pimentel, a Bernie Sanders supporter and Make the Road Action member, as follows: “We have been organizing to survive and organizing to live, but now we want to organize to transform society and transform our lives.”
The last eight words of Ms. Pimentel’s statement accurately reflect the Sanders platform. Ms. Pimentel’s quote evidence her desire for a socialist society wherein the federal government is more important than the individual. She would rely on the feds to direct her life and provide all her needs. She must abhor self-responsibility.
The United States has as a founding cornerstone self-reliance, and it will continue to thrive only if its citizens reject socialism and embrace taking responsibility for their own actions.
