GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A fatal officer-involved shooting shut down Interstate 70 in western Colorado for several hours.

The shooting was reported at about 2 p.m. Saturday between Canyon Creek and New Castle.

Garfield County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Walt Stowe tells the Post Independent that investigators were awaiting a coroner’s report and notification of the victim’s family before releasing more information about what led to the shooting.

Snowy weather and slick roads caused accidents on Highway 6, where some traffic was detoured, forcing the closure of that road for a period of time. Interstate 70 reopened in both directions shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.

A critical incident team is investigating the shooting.
