LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two people under the influence of drugs left an infant lying on the road in frigid temperatures, authorities in Kentucky say.

Destiny McQueen, 21, and Michael Augst, 49, were arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and public intoxication, according to a Facebook post from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responding to a call about a woman running on the road reported they found McQueen high on an unknown substance. She told them her two children were standing on the roadway, deputies said.

A 5-month-old infant was found wearing minimal clothing on the road in 35 degrees Fahrenheit (1.67 degrees Celsius) temperature, deputies said.

Deputies said they found Augst at a residence, also on drugs. They also found the infant’s older sibling there. Deputies noted the temperature inside the home was 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15.6 Celsius).

Both children were taken into custody. McQueen was also charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. Augst was also charged with complicity to commit first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree wanton endangerment.

It’s unclear whether McQueen or Augst have attorneys who can comment on their behalf.
