IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - At least two dozen passengers escaped unhurt after a party bus caught fire on a Southern California highway on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.

Flames erupted as the bus was on northbound Interstate 405 Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

Revelers managed to get off and were escorted from the interstate while they waited for a replacement bus to pick them up, the CHP said.

Photos from the scene showed the bus in the far left lane, blackened by flames.

The fire prompted lane closures on both sides of the highway to accommodate fire crews.

The cause of the blaze wasn’t known Wednesday.
