OPINION:
I’m an old Democrat in the the last half of my ninth decade, and sadly I will never be able to say before my demise that I’m proud to be a Democrat.
The current Democratic leadership has permanently damaged our country and the party. They talk about a new investigation into the president. If they want to heal the divide in the country, they should, with the Republicans and independents, investigate how this hoax impeachment started. The House of Representatives had reached a verdict of guilty before the partisan and biased trial.
To regain my respect and that of other Americans, both sides of the aisle could call witnesses (including congressional representatives) under oath to explain what happened and how we can avoid another threat to our Constitution.
For example, how and why was the Steele dossier used and financed? After the Mueller report found the dossier to be a hoax and that there had been no Russian collusion, why did the House continue an investigation? Was it only for political purposes against a duly elected president (ergo, a coup)? The Department of Justice, the FBI and Congress are forever stained, as is the impeachment process.
