PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man was struck and killed by a trolley in southwest Philadelphia, police said.

A police spokesman says the 67-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident shortly before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority said the operator of the Route 36 trolley told investigators that he didn’t see the man before the trolley hit him. He said he pulled the emergency brake after the victim was struck.

No other injuries were reported. Police described the investigation as “active and ongoing.”
