MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama roofing company said Wednesday it would contest a $15,000 fine over the death of a 15-year-old who state officials said fell to his death at a job site.
A statement by Grant Rockett, chief executive of Apex Roofing and Restoration of Pelham, said the company would appeal a penalty announced by the Alabama Department of Labor.
The state, in announcing the fine Tuesday, said the company was directing a job where the youth fell 50 feet on to a concrete floor on July 1 in Cullman, killing him.
The state, which fined the company for violating rules against minors working in elevated and hazardous areas, said the was the maximum amount allowed by law.
