Conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh (the self-proclaimed “mayor of Realville”) announced this week that he has advanced lung cancer (“Rush Limbaugh reveals he has lung cancer, shocking and saddening his listeners,” Web, Feb. 3). His millions of radio listeners know all too well what that means.

Even though Mr. Limbaugh’s medical diagnosis was a shock, what he said afterward mattered most. He said, ” … I have a deeply personal relationship with God that I do not proselytize about, but I do, and I have been working that relationship tremendously.” These are heartfelt words from a great man who reached the pinnacle of his profession.

In his moment of trial Rush Limbaugh displayed the attitude of the biblical character Job. After losing his immense wealth, family and health, Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”
