ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - An infant pulled from a fire in a east Roswell home was transported to a New Mexico hospital where the infant later died, authorities said.
The Roswell Fire Department was dispatched Sunday to a fire in southeast New Mexico, Roswell Daily Record reported Monday.
The child is believed to be less than a year old, authorities said.
Two other children believed to be 3 and 4 years old were transported to a hospital for medical examination, but did not have life-threatening injuries, firefighters said.
The fire began in a back bedroom near a space heater and the father of the deceased child was home at the time, Roswell Fire Marshal Matt Miller said.
It is unclear if he was injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation with lab results pending, authorities said.
