PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say four people have been taken to hospitals after a crash involving at least four cars and two semi-trucks of a Phoenix freeway.
The crash occurred about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of the newly constructed Loop 202-South Mountain Freeway.
Phoenix Fire Department officials say at least eight people were hurt, including a child.
They say a 2-year-old boy, a 29-year-old woman and a 44-year-old woman were transported to area hospitals in serious condition while a 21-year-old woman had minor injuries.
Four other people were treated at the accident scene and released.
Authorities say one of the semi-trucks started leaked 20 gallons of diesel fuel onto the freeway, creating a hazardous materials situation for emergency crews.
They say the other semi-truck was carrying oxygen and acetylene gas tanks, but the tanks didn’t leak despite being damaged.
The cause of the crash hasn’t been determined yet.
