PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Rhode Island has dropped 4 cents in the past week, AAA Northeast reported Monday.

Self-serve, regular is now selling for an average of $2.50 per gallon, which is 3 cents per gallon higher than the current national average and 18 cents higher than the in-state price a year ago.

AAA attributes the lower prices at the pump to lower crude oil prices, which have dropped about $10 per barrel in the past month, and record-high U.S. gasoline stocks.

AAA also found a 40-cent range in prices for regular, from a low of $2.29 per gallon to a high of $2.69.
