BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont residents will become automatically enrolled into the state’s health record database starting in March.

Vermont Health Information Exchange will allow doctors across the state to access patients’ medical records when necessary, WCAX reported Wednesday.

More than 2,000 health care professionals in the state are enrolled in the provider portal that will open March 1.

Jenney Samuelson, the deputy commissioner for the Department of Vermont Health Access, said that in the past individuals would have to opt-in but this will allow medical professionals to have access to the majority of patients unless they decide to opt-out.
