MOUNT TABOR, Vt. (AP) - A trial for a Vermont woman police say killed her husband in December 2016 is expected to begin in June.
Peggy Lee Shores, 55, was arraigned in February 2017 and has been awaiting trial in jail since, the Times Argus reported Wednesday.
Authorities say Shores killed her husband, David Shores. But her attorney argues he tripped down the stairs while holding a gun and shot himself.
Christopher Robinson, a forensic investigator hired by the defense, testified Jan. 13 that the gunshot residue on the victim indicated the weapon was closer than the state believes.
Judge David Fenster rejected Peggy Lee Shores’ request to dismiss the charges in January.
Each of Peggy Lee Shores’ court appearances has been attended by 10 to 20 relatives, the Times Argus reported. Her family members and some of David Shores’ have asked that she be released and have offered their homes to her.
