JENKINS, Pa. (AP) - A man driving an all-terrain vehicle on an ice-covered reservoir died when it went through the thawing ice and plunged him into the water, but a female passenger was able to safely get to land.
The accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. Saturday at Mill Creek Reservoir in Luzerne County.
Steven Kenzakoski, 47, of Jenkins, was driving the ATV when it broke through the ice. His passenger, Megan Squires, 45, made it to shore, but Kenzakoski went under the water.
People who were with the victims called 911 as a relative pulled Kenzakoski to shore and began treating him. Emergency responders soon arrived, but they had a difficult time reaching the victims due to the location and the terrain, authorities said.
Kenzakoski and Squires were both taken to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead there a short time later. His death has been ruled accidental.
