ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 6-year-old boy has been killed and his 9-year-old sister critically wounded in a shooting Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, police said.
The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday in the Kingsway East neighborhood, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Police Chief John Hayden said a man was driving in the area, with a woman and her three children in the car, when a man across the street began shooting at the car. The boy and girl were hit, and the woman was injured by flying glass.
The man drove straight to the hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead, Hayden said. The girl was in critical condition but expected to survive, Hayden said. No arrests had been reported by late afternoon Saturday.
St. Louis has been stung by a rash of gun violence involving children over the course of the last year. More than a dozen children ages 16 or younger were shot to death in the city in 2019.
