PHOENIX (AP) - Nobody was injured when a Phoenix police officer fired at a man trying to force his way into a passerby’s vehicle in Mesa early Thursday morning, Mesa police said.

Mesa Police Department spokesman Nik Rasheta said the incident began in Phoenix where police tried to pull over the man’s speeding vehicle and that it ended in Mesa after officers used tire-flattening devices to force it to stop on a U.S. 60 exit ramp.

Onee Phoenix office fired his gun when the man got out and tried to force his way into a pickup truck traveling on Country Club Drive, Rasheta said.



The man wasn’t hit by the gunfire and was taken into custody after he jumped into the bed of the pickup, Rasheta said.

No identities were released and Rasheta said it wasn’t immediately known what charges the man will face.
