MORGANFIELD, Ky. (AP) - A couple died in a house fire in western Kentucky, officials said.
Joseph Sheffer, 86, and his wife, Joann Sheffer, 81, were killed when their home in Grove Center caught fire, Union County Coroner Stephen Shouse told news outlets.
The Union County Dispatch Center was notified early Tuesday that the home near Morganfield was “fully involved,” a news release said.
“Flames were coming out of the windows and through the roof,” when fire crews arrived, Henshaw Fire Chief Matt Williams said.
He said crews had to wait until the fire was partially under control to enter the home and remove the couple. The bodies were taken to the medical examiner’s office in Madisonville for autopsies.
The cause and origin of the fire were still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Williams said.
