PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Vice President Mike Pence expressed his support for police Monday at a “Cops for Trump” event in New Hampshire that was attended by Republican Gov. Chris Sununu and former U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte.
“I’ll make you a promise,” Pence said at the Portsmouth event. “Cognizant of the risks that you take every morning, when you put on the uniform and you walk out the door, this president, this vice president and this administration will always stand with the men and women of law enforcement.”
Seacoastonline.com reports Pence said nationwide, violent crime is down and 2018 saw a drop in drug overdose deaths for the first time in years.
Sununu said it is an “honor” to partner with the Trump administration.
“The president and the vice president are going to do well here,” Sununu said. “They continue to listen, they continue to put people first.”
Not long after Pence took to the stage, three young women in the audience began waving pieces of cloth that read, “Trump endangers Jews,” while chanting the same words. Security removed them, and Pence continued without acknowledging the disturbance.
