OPINION:
Newly empowered Virginia Democrats are attempting to ban so-called “assault weapons” (“Virginia lawmakers to debate assault weapon ban,” Web, Feb. 6). When it comes to gun control, ignorant politicians often make the most moronic statements.
Consider Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran, who recenty said, “Assault weapons are not protected by the Second Amendment because they are weapons of war.”
The full text of the Second Amendment is as follows: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
It is very concerning that an official in Mr. Moran’s position does not understand the meaning of the word militia.
