PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) - A Plattsmouth man was sentenced Monday for a fatal crash that prosecutors said was caused by road rage.
Michael Burch, 36, pleaded no contest in July to motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident in the August 2019 death of Jody Emmert, 47, on Highway 75 in Sarpy County.
He was sentenced Monday to three years in prison for each charge and his driver’s license will be revoked for 15 years, KETV reported.
Burch was driving aggressively after having an argument with his girlfriend when Emmert passed him on the highway. Emmert applied his brakes when Burch followed to closely, angering Burch, Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Michael Mills said.
“He went to pass Mr. Emmert on the left, and while he was traveling next to the motorcycle, he decided to ram his van into the side of the motorcycle, which caused the death of the victim,” Mills said.
