WEST HAVEN, Vt. (AP) - A 70-year-old Vermont man is facing attempted murder and other charges after being involved in a 12-hour standoff in West Haven with state police that included a trooper shooting at the man’s vehicle, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The incident began at about 8:40 a.m. Sunday when troopers received a report about a dispute between Reginald Book and a relative, police said.

Book was later spotted in a vehicle on Main Road in West Haven and while police tried to stop him he “drove aggressively” around the property where he was located “at times in the direction of troopers,” police said.

At one point, a trooper fell near the front of Book’s vehicle, and troopers heard the engine rev while the vehicle accelerated toward the trooper on the ground. As the trooper stood up, Trooper Craig Roland discharged his handgun at the van, striking the vehicle at least once after which the vehicle stopped. The standoff lasted until early Monday.

Book was ordered held without bail. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.

As is routine, Roland was placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated by the Vermont attorney general and the Rutland County state’s attorney.
