HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) - A Hutchinson woman who was driving a vehicle carrying seven passengers when it rolled - killing one passenger - lost a bid for a lower bond and can be detained until charges are formally filed, a judge ruled during a hearing Monday.

Viola G. Rhodes, 31, of Hutchinson, faces several possible charges, including involuntary manslaughter, after the crash Saturday night near Hutchinson. One of the passengers, Brian Bookout, 44, of Hutchinson was thrown from the vehicle later died from his injuries.

The others passengers suffered minor injuries, Sheriff’s Capt. Levi Blumanhourst said.

Rhodes bond was originally set at $83,250 but the arrest record listed it at $385,250. The difference was caused because the Reno County Jail listed only one aggravated battery count, rather than six, as well as involuntary manslaughter and DUI, The Hutchinson News reported.

Rhodes lowered the correct bond to $200,000 and set a hearing for next Monday when formal charges will be filed.
