AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - It’s the final days of the year for Maine’s deer hunters who use archery and muzzleloaders.

Hunters can still use both of those methods in designated parts of the state until Dec. 12. The muzzleloader season began on Nov. 30 all over the state and transitions to more limited areas on Monday.

Archery is only allowed in the state’s “expanded archery” zones. Hunters are encouraged to check with authorities before hunting.

Maine wildlife officials have encouraged more hunting this year because it’s an outdoor activity that allows for social distancing. The main firearms season for deer ended on Nov. 28.
