PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say federal agents have seized over 200,000 counterfeit surgical masks intended for hospital workers.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said an investigation by a group of CBP officers and Homeland Security Investigations agents based at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix resulted in seizures of several shipments of the counterfeit masks in various locations in the past 45 days.
A CBP statement said some of the counterfeit masks had already been shipped to hospitals in other parts in the country but that they were seized after investigators were able to have them recalled.
The statement said the counterfeit masks were potentially hazardous if used by medical personnel.
