DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Spread of the coronavirus may be increasing again in Iowa as the positivity rate, which has been declining, ticked higher in recent days, data posted Wednesday indicate.

The 7-day rolling average of the positivity rate in Iowa has risen over the past two weeks from 35.38% on Dec. 15 to 36.21% on Dec. 29, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

Iowa public health data posted Wednesday shows 1,652 new cases identified in the previous 24 hours and 10 additional deaths raising the death toll in the state to 3,822.



Iowa has the 12th-highest per capita death rate at 120.8 deaths per 100,000 people, Johns Hopkins said.

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 612 people in hospitals as of Wednesday morning, down from 620 the day before, and 127 in intensive care, an increase of 10 from the previous day. The number of nursing home outbreaks fell slightly to 111 from 114 on Tuesday.
