RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 17-year-old girl is recovering after being shot in the leg during a party in Nevada over the holiday weekend, authorities said.

Washoe County deputies responded to call around 1 a.m. Sunday about a teen who was shot in the thigh at a party about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Reno. The girl was not identified.

The Washoe County sheriff’s office said it is believed somebody at the party fired a weapon into the dark not knowing she was there. The teen is expected to recover from her injuries.

Authorities do not believe there was intent to harm anybody, but are asking anyone with information to reach out to the sheriff’s office.

The girl told authorities that she learned of the party through social media and that more than 100 people attended. Health officials have urged the community to adhere to COVID-19 safety regulations, including limiting the size of public gatherings to stem the spread of the virus.
