PELHAM, N.H. (AP) - Two men were injured during a Christmas morning stabbing in Pelham.

One of the men was in critical condition and a suspect has been taken into custody, according to police.

The stabbing happened just after 1 a.m. Friday outside a home on Old County Road where a gathering was taking place, Pelham police said in a press release.



Joseph Schulte, 29, began arguing with a 28-year-old man at the gathering, according to police. The argument escalated and the 28-year-old suffered stab wounds to his head.

Police said Schulte then stabbed a 27-year-old who was trying to break up the fight.

The 27-year-old, of Litchfield, was unconscious when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to Lowell General Hospital and then to Tufts Medical Center in Boston,

The 28-year-old, of New Ipswich, was taken to Lowell General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Schulte was later arrested at a home in Nashua and is being charged with two counts of first-degree assault, WMUR-TV reported.
