TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Pima County corrections officer who has been on leave since August is now facing assault charges.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office says 36-year-old Michael Flaminio was arrested Wednesday on two misdemeanor counts of assault.

Authorities said in a news release that Flaminio has been under investigation for a use-of-force incident since Aug. 15.

No details of the incident were given. However, corrections staff asked sheriff’s detectives to take over the investigation.

The Pima County Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and opted to pursue misdemeanor charges against Flaminio.

Flaminio was cited and released on Wednesday. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

He remains on paid leave.
