DE SOTO, Mo. (AP) - A large fire at an eastern Missouri recycling plant destroyed the building and also damaged nearby homes.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the fire at the plant in De Soto burned for about eight hours before it was extinguished around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The facility also housed two other businesses. No one was hurt.

Fire Chief James Maupin said the building was destroyed and nearby homes sustained damage to exterior walls.

De Soto fire officials called in additional departments to address problems with a water shortage as they battled the blaze.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
