Congress on Friday passed a two-day extension of government funding, hoping to avert a weekend shutdown and buy more time to finish negotiations on a full-year bill.
The House voted 320-60 to approve the two-day bill and the Senate quickly followed with its own approval — though not without a little drama.
Some senators had threatened to delay the bill to protest the way leaders have gone about writing year-end bills.
In the end, no senator objected and the measure headed off to President Trump.
The 2021 spending bill is tied to broader negotiations on a coronavirus relief package.
The government has been operating on stopgap money since Oct. 1.
