NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Katherine Crytzer to serve as U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Senate members voted 48-47 to confirm the Crytzer, 36, who was nominated by President Donald Trump.
“Katie is the first Tennessean confirmed by the Senate to serve as a federal district judge in this Congress,” said Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn in a statement. “She will be the second female judge appointed to the Eastern District of Tennessee since its creation in 1878.”
Crytzer replaces former U.S. District Judge Pamela Reeves, who was the first woman to be chief judge in the district’s 222-year history. Reeves died earlier this year after battling cancer.
Crytzer is currently the principal deputy assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy.
